Left To Tell

What intrigued me: The power of prayer throughout this book intrigued me the most. Illibagiza was able to survive through a mass murder by sheer belief within the Lord.

What surprised me: It really surprised me that so many hutu's were willing to help the tutsi's knowing that their lives were in jeopardy if they were found to be hiding a tutsi. Pastor Murinizi was brave enough to hide many tutsi women in his home and feed them throughout the genocide. Also the person that had hidden her brother for a while until he had been betrayed.

What disturbed me: The most disturbing thing to me about this book was the fact that they were literally trying to exterminate all tutsi's as if they were animals instead of human beings. The killers laughed, joked and sang songs while slaughtering people of their country because they were different. The taking of innocent lives is disturbing beyond words.

  1. Tori, great work on this entry. I agree with you, the songs on the radio about death, the party-like atmosphere the killers seemed to be operating with was very disturbing. It made Ilibagiza's message of peace all the more amazing, since she had this crazy experience.
